Chandler Dozier wasn’t raised in Bakersfield or Texas. He’s a young artist from North Carolina who fell in love with Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam and a style of country music recorded decades before he was born.

But Chandler isn’t trying to recreate the past. He’s bringing the energy of the neo-traditional country movement into 2026—and making old-school country feel new again.

For New Music Friday, Chandler joins Amanda to talk about finding his sound, moving to Nashville during 2020 and playing four-hour honky-tonk sets to catch up as a musician. He also breaks down the unexpected blend of Bakersfield country, rockabilly, bluegrass and Norteño music behind songs like “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” “Dancing With a Memory,” “Until She’s Gone” and his newest release, “Norteño.”
