Country stars, hit songwriters and Nashville personalities opened up about family legacies, career-changing moments and the songs that shaped their lives during Healing Harmonies, a benefit held at JBJ’s in Nashville.
Amanda sat down with Emma Grace Glover, Hannah Dasher, Tayla Lynn, Sam Williams, Meghan Linsey, Trey Bruce, Ben Schuller and Erin from On Air With Erin—and every guest brought a story worth hearing.
Healing Harmonies founder Emma Grace Glover explained how watching music comfort her nana during cancer inspired her to help other patients. She also shared the story behind “Irreplaceable,” the deeply personal song she wrote as a teenager, and how she balances music with studying agriculture at NC State.
Hannah Dasher brought her unmistakable humor while revealing how the pandemic shutdown inspired Stand By Your Pan, the cooking series that unexpectedly transformed her career. She also discussed her cookbook and teased a new record she had been creating with one of her musical heroes.
Tayla Lynn shared personal memories of her grandmother, Loretta Lynn—from hearing Loretta reminisce with Hank Williams Jr. about country music’s wildest years to the simple advice she gave Tayla about kindness, character and caring for her fans. Tayla also discussed keeping that musical legacy alive on tour with Conway Twitty’s grandson, Tre Twitty.
Sam Williams opened up about creating his own identity as the son of Hank Williams Jr. and grandson of Hank Williams. He discussed reimagining “Honky Tonkin’” and revealed how a melody his father used to hum inspired “Know Me,” a deeply personal song about taking back his story from people who think they already understand him.
Meghan Linsey reflected on the many times heartbreak and music met in her songwriting. She also shared why she finally claimed the Billboard plaque she had earned when her performance of “Amazing Grace” reached No. 1 on the Christian chart—and why independent artists must celebrate every hard-earned win.
Hit songwriter Trey Bruce told stories from a career that produced songs for Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Randy Travis, Trace Adkins, Rebecca Lynn Howard and many others. He recalled pulling over during a pizza delivery when he first heard one of his songs on the radio and revealed that songwriting was also in his blood: his father co-wrote “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys.”
Ben Schuller discussed Cosplay, the genre-blending visual album he spent two years creating. As the project’s artist, director and editor, Ben explained why his music extends beyond an album into a complete series of connected short films.
Erin from On Air With Erin shared how five whirlwind years in Nashville led her to WSM Radio and the Grand Ole Opry. As the evening’s emcee, she reflected on bringing such a varied and legendary group of musicians together to support a local cause.
Healing Harmonies supported the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and highlighted how music therapy can comfort patients, ease anxiety and help families connect during some of life’s most difficult moments.
It was a night of country music history, laughter, vulnerability and music with a purpose.
