The kind of place where you could walk in by yourself, order a drink, and somehow end up in conversation with the people sitting next to you.
Somewhere around 2007 or 2008, Chris Young taught me how to play darts at one of the old neighborhood spots in Nashville.
You know the kind of place I’m talking about.
The kind where you could walk in by yourself, grab a bar stool, order a drink, and somehow end up in conversation with the people sitting next to you. There was no dress code. No pressure to get the perfect photo. No VIP section. Just good food, cold drinks, and the kind of atmosphere that made you want to stay for ‘just one more.’
As Nashville has grown, those places have become harder to find.
Somewhere along the way, many bars started feeling like they were designed more for Instagram than for actual conversation. (Yes…I fully appreciate the irony of me saying that.)
So when I walked into Chris Young’s new sports bar, Famous Friends, I immediately had one thought:
This feels like the Nashville I love.
From the moment you step onto the patio, the space just feels comfortable.

It’s not trying to be the biggest bar on Demonbreun. It doesn’t need a rooftop to impress you. In fact, I think the size is exactly what makes it work.
The long, narrow layout naturally pulls people together instead of spreading them apart. You won’t spend half the night trying to figure out where your friends wandered off to. And if history repeats itself, you’ll probably leave having met a few new ones.
Everything about the layout feels intentional. Warm. Comfortable. Like it was designed for people to actually hang out.
And maybe the best part? It’s a sports bar that every die-hard fan will love, but it won’t overwhelm those of us who are more “yay sports.” Absolutely perfect blend! There are TVs throughout the restaurant and on the patio, making it an ideal place for football Saturdays, NFL Sundays, March Madness, or catching whatever game matters to you.

But it never crosses into that overwhelming, wall-to-wall sportsbook feeling.
It’s less ‘Vegas sportsbook.’ More ‘your favorite neighborhood bar just happens to have every game on.’
And can we talk about the bar stools? I know that sounds like an oddly specific thing to notice, but stay with me.
Somewhere along the way, bars decided uncomfortable seating was acceptable. You know the stools I’m talking about – the hard seats with little or no back support that practically encourage you to leave after twenty minutes.
Not these. These are bar stools made for lingering.
They’re plush. Comfortable. The kind that quietly invite you to order another round and stay through the next game.
Considering Chris’s latest single is called I Didn’t Come Here to Leave, I couldn’t help but laugh. Whether intentional or not, these chairs seem to say, “Stay awhile”.
The menu follows that same philosophy.
It’s built for sharing, grazing, ordering another appetizer during halftime, and maybe another round before heading home. I have a feeling the White Peach Paloma is going to become one of the signature drinks here. It immediately had me singing Ashley Anne’s “the girl with the Paloma” in my head.
Around the room you’ll find signed memorabilia from Chris’s famous friends alongside nods to his favorite sports teams, giving the space personality without making it feel overdone.
Located at 1516A Demonbreun Street, Famous Friends takes its name from Chris Young’s 2021 No. 1 hit with Kane Brown.
“This has been a passion project of mine for a long time,” Chris shared. “I wanted to create a true sports bar that still feels like a great place to hang out—even when there’s not a game on.”
Mission accomplished. More than anything, Famous Friends feels authentic.
It feels like Chris.
It feels like Demonbreun before everything became about being the biggest, loudest place on the block.
And maybe that’s why I walked out already thinking, “This is going to become one of my ‘meet me at…’ places.”

Because sometimes the best new spot in Nashville isn’t the one trying to reinvent the city. It’s the one that reminds you why you fell in love with it in the first place.
Famous Friends is now open on Demonbreun Street, and if you’ve been missing that neighborhood bar feeling, I have a feeling you’ll feel right at home.
